Hey, I’m Kate! (she/they)
And I’m Greer! (they/he)
Growing up as an athlete, I formed a deep connection with and trust in my body–a connection that has been important to me years later as a tradesperson. After leaving the athletics world, I wasn’t sure what a future career would look like, but when I began working in the trades, I knew I was in the right place.
I’ve spent the past three years sharpening my skills
in home renovations and repairs, and I particularly enjoy finish carpentry and tiling projects. I love to
get creative and find innovative solutions to tricky problems! As a triple Capricorn, I am passionate
about my work and hold myself to the highest
standard of quality. I recognize that working in people’s homes can be a very personal experience, so it’s important that my clients
feel comfortable, seen, and heard.
Meet the team!
I’ve specialized in home repairs since 2020, when I dropped out of a Master’s in Art Education program to pursue a career in carpentry.
I’ve always loved making things and moved around a lot as a kid. I think the desire for home really directed me to the residential trades. The concept of home/a place of respite is especially important for so many queers, and I want to make it more accessible.
I love this work and my dream is for Splitgill to one day take part in building safe, affordable housing for TGNC (trans + gender nonconforming/nonbinary) people.
Why “splitgill,” you ask?
Well, splitgills are one of the most common wood-decaying mushrooms and they exist pretty much everywhere! They have over 20 thousand sexual identities - making them the queer icons of the natural world. Also, if you choose Splitgill Carpentry, you get to work with a couple of FUN GUYS!
(That was Greer, he’s sorry.)

Sliding Scale
Providing accessible services means challenging the ableist, cis/heteronormative, classist and racist systems we live within. One way we do this is by encouraging our clients to self-identify their socioeconomic privilege to determine what they are able to pay for our hourly labor. Consultations are free, and from there we draw up a lump-sum contract for labor and material cost so you know what you’ll be paying for the work provided. Any deviations from that contract will require a change-order from us.
Please use the information below to identify your level of financial privilege. We are building trust and community, and therefore will never ask you for any “proof” of your decision.
